Receiver Wrench M1 *also M1A or M14
Unlike the other wrenches made for torquing Garand receivers, this set provides for smooth, uniform contact on top of the receiver ring and the bottom of the ring directly opposite. This wrench does not load the receiver rails (legs) as most other wrenches do and so eliminates the chance of deforming either a rail or a functional portion of the ring. Slots on the wrench bottom half provide clearance so that the flat at the ring bottom center can be used for torquing. If there is a reason to clamp against the bottom rails, then the lower block can simply be flipped over and used against the rails instead of the ring.
Blocks use 1/2" diameter bolts on 3" centers, which is compatible with many handles already available and maybe already in your tool box. It's not entirely necessary to use a handle; the wrench blocks can simply be bolted to the edge of your work bench or any convenient flat bar.
Having re-barreled many Garands, we find that the old barrel thread can take upwards of 200 ft-lbs to break loose and this tool will handle that easily. While it shouldn't be necessary to use that much torque to install/align a properly fit new barrel, this tool will also allow you to use as much torque as a qualified barrel smith would see fit.
*When using it for the M1A or M14, all that needs to be done is to flip over the bottom jaws only as those don't use the slots.
